Apple announced a number of new goodies recently, including upgrades to the Mac line-up which now all sport the Ivy Bridge processors.
Firstly a new Macbook Pro 15 inch model with a Retina display have been released offering a Solid State harddrive, the Ivy Bridge processor and a very high resolution Retina screen at 15 inches all packed into a slim form factor. If you are familiar with the new iPad or iPhone 4 and up then you could probably imagine what working on one of these would be like. As Apple puts it “everything presented to you on the screen will be remarkably vibrant, detailed and sharp”.
The model is more of larger Macbook Air than a smaller Macbook Pro as it looses it’s Firewire and Ethernet connections, though Apple have released Thunderbolt to Ethernet and Firewire adapters resolving this issue. The Retina Macbook Pro also has soldered RAM which means like the Macbook Air, it is unable to be upgraded at a later date. The advice that comes with this is to consider purchasing the Macbook with the 16GB RAM option as it should provide considerable more life for upcoming operating systems and software updates.
The existing Macbook Air and Pro line also received a speed bump with the addition of the previously mentioned Ivy Bridge processor and a slight price reduction, meaning you get more power for less dollars than ever. The Harddrive’s in the Macbook Airs are significantly faster as is the new video cards in the Pro line.
The Airport Express also received an update now sporting an Apple TV look and simultaneous dual-band 802.11n which lets Wi-Fi-enabled devices connect to it’s network on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless bands.
In Apple software news iOS6 was announced with Siri enhancements and Facebook integration and Mountain Lion gets a release date and price of A$20.99

Marketcircle have released Daylite 4, their business and productivty management application for Mac OSX and iOS.
The new version, released today, is a major upgrade from previous versions focusing on streamlining the interface, increasing performance, workflow and integration with iOS devices.
Daylite handles almost every facete of a business assisting with contact and relationship management, calendars, tracking projects and tasks. It allows you to work and get information remotely with well integrated iOS apps for iPhone and iPad.
They even have Siri, the iOS voice recognition tool, ‘working for you too’ as it is now able to create or modify appointments for Daylite like it does on iCal and dial contacts from Daylight database.
Available now
Daylite is available from the Mac App Store and likewise Daylite Touch through the iTunes App Store. Both are free downloads and the licensing is handled through the server. Included in the Daylite license is Daylite, Daylite Mail Assistant, Daylite for iOS, and product support from MarketCircle (email based same as before). There are no longer separate costs for these components so we need to start thinking of these as features of the Daylite ecosystem rather than additional products.
Daylite 4 is Lion only; 10.7.4 is the minimum required OS. For any users unable to change OS, Daylite 3 will be available for purchase until the end of 2012 (subject to change).
There is an upgrade version and price for Daylite 3 users, although version 1 users will have to buy Daylite 4 outright.
There will be volume pricing available; 3 and above users will receive a 5-10% discount.
For users who purchased Daylite 3 up to 30 days ago you will receive a free upgrade, contact us for information.

As per FileMaker’s press release.
FileMaker 12 launches a new era for databases, empowering users to create stunning custom database apps for iPad, iPhone, Windows, Mac and the web.
FileMaker Pro 12 features beautiful new themes and Starter Solutions, powerful iPad, iPhone and desktop design tools, and superior file management for today’s media-intensive applications. FileMaker Pro 12 Advanced adds additional development and management tools.
The FileMaker Go 12 for iPad and iPhone apps are available free on the App Store. The free download of FileMaker Go 12 makes it amazingly easy for everyone to run iOS database apps created by FileMaker Pro 12.
There are a couple of things to note also:
FileMaker Pro 12 databases only work with other FileMaker 12 software. Files from previous versions of FileMaker Pro must be converted to the new file format to be shared with FileMaker Pro 12/Pro 12 Advanced. This format is not backwards compatible with previous versions of FileMaker, ie if you upgrade your FileMaker Server database then you must unanimously upgrade all clients to version 12 also.
Only OSX 10.6 and 10.7 is supported so any prior operating systems will have to be updated.
If you have FileMaker version 11, 10 or 9 you can purchase an upgrade version (version 9 upgrade valid until September 27th, 2012) , if you’re 8.5 and earlier then you must purchase the full version.
We have access to all versions of Filemaker 12 and if you were interested we can help with the best upgrade path and installation.
