Apple earlier this month made an incremental speed bump to their line of MacBook Pro laptops. While only a small bump in terms of CPU and Hard drive size across the range, the MacBook Pro 15 and 17’s also received an upgraded Graphic Card offering greater performance (especially for you Graphic heads out there) for the same dollar.
All the models are available now.
Apple recently moved up to #4 on Greenpeace’s annual ranking of electronic manufacturers by environmental criteria. As seen on
Guide to Greener Electronics on Greenpeace’s website. Apple should continue to move up this list in the future if the rumoured current development of a solar farm turns out to be true.

Outside of Keychains first use of remembering your logins for websites and mail, wireless internet passwords and even address details, there are some more specific uses that are great for safe storage of personal information.
The impending retirement of one of Melbourne’s favourite Mac Techs, John Proctor.
John has announced his retirement to the warmer climates of the north and though he may be with us for a while yet we must begin our search for a suitable technician to step into the role.

With the release of iOS5 late last week we thought it would be prudent to mention some tips and experiences of our own on the matter.
Please note, before updating, please back up your phone by letting it Sync fully with iTunes. If you get asked to apply the update, then click cancel and make sure you have a recent backup completed. You can always wait to update; waiting for a later version (i.e. 5.1 or 5.0.1) usually fixes any major bugs and saves you from spending time troubleshooting.

You have probably read somewhere about the release of the iPhone 4s; while not the iPhone 5 many were hoping for, the iPhone 4s still provides a major speed bump, much improved camera and a redesign of the antenna.. However it’s the voice control application named Siri that’s making an interesting wave of excitement and it’s functionality seems broad to say the least.
Read more here.
Firstly: What devices will run iOS5?
iPhones models: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S
Others – iPod Touch 3rd and 4th gen, iPad and iPad 2
Secondly: Update your iTunes to the latest version…
Your iTunes might have asked you to update otherwise click the Apple menu, then Software Update to get the iTunes update.
Thirdly: Back up your device…
But you’ve already done that correct? If not, do it now! Back up by connecting you device to your computer, open iTunes, selecting your device and clicking Sync. Letting your device fully Sync with iTunes will let it grab all it’s information and data and save it on your computer.
Finally, update…
Technically iTunes will detect your device and let you now that there is a update available for it – however if you don’t have this option or clicked cancel at some point, then simply click the “Check for Update” button in the Summary panel in iTunes.
This will start the download from the Apple servers. Once complete, your device will restart and begin installing iOS 5.
Let us know if you have any troubles with the update and we can certainly help if you need to restore.

However it’s the voice control application named Siri that’s making an interesting wave of excitement and it’s functionality seems broad to say the least.
With the use of Siri you no longer have to get into an application to make changes but simply tell your phone what you want done for example if you want to add a reminder to your calendar then you could say “remind me at (time) that I should buy some broccoli”. it even takes it one step further with the location integration into iOS5 so that you could say “remind when i leave work to buy some broccoli” and it will detect that you have left your works location and remind you appropriately. Pretty nifty.
For all you iPhone 4 and 3GS users rest assured you aren’t left out, iOS5 supports these devices and brings this location functionality with it. Our technician this morning created a reminder for himself when he would physically arrive at work and sure enough when he pulled up, he was reminded.
The iPhone 4s is available as of October 14th although expected shipping or delivery times are 1-2 weeks. Regardless, I’m about to pre-order mine.

At the Apple World Wide Developers’ Conference in June of this year Apple released details of the upcoming release of iOS 5. For those of you who don’t know iOS is the software system that runs on iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. According to Apple iOS 5 will be released sometime in the North American Fall. Well as all North Americans know after Labour Day (this year it was September 5) it is officially Fall. As usual the rumour mill has been quite active and along with iOS 5 we will also be seeing a revamped iPhone. This phone has been dubbed the ‘iPhone 5’. All indications point to a launch sometime after the second week in October but as we all know Apple will keep to its own internal timetable. So watch for an announcement in the next couple of weeks. For more information about iOS 5 you can find it here: http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html
Apple has released their next instalment of OSX, entitled Lion. Whether it’s the multi-touch gesture support, full screen applications or one of the many other new features that takes your fancy, make sure you and your system are ready to make the change and avoid any pitfalls.
We welcome two new staff members this month: Paul and Friedrich.
